then the replacement was unable to make it.
Anyway back to the point Martin gave us an account of his experiences fishing since he was a wee nipper with a kagoul.
He covered his early exploits of catching perch and the odd pike and the scary sound pike make as they chomp a metal disgorger.
this progressed onto him playing around in boats in the lakes via a carpy spell
and from there where to go, well ask his wife if you want to catch bigger fish but there were rudd, tench (well pike as well when he was tench fishing), spanish cats, striped bass, all manner of odd looking things from australia.
all in all a good night with plenty of emphasis on the fun side of things like getting up five hours before your fishing partner to try and get a fish.

Cheers Martin had a good few chuckles and not all at your expense so thank you from us all at region 31 more so considering the exceptional circumstances you In doing this it shows how far we have progressed in a relativly short space of time, as the kit we now take for granted is so far beyond what we once used, not to mention dress sense mind you it hasnt changed all that much.
The 1st fish Jon showed was quite memorable and te tale that went with it will leave many laughing about there early days
Jon also threw in some of his other fish that he has targeted over the years, eels, cats, carp to name a few.
As ever rather than go into too much detail and run the risk of Jon's show being spoiled for others yet to see it ill leave it at that suffice to say its a show that left me (at least) looking inward at how my fishing has progressed rather than the more usual shows that tend to give rise to quite a few questions

Eric Edwards

Well tonight we were treated to a talk and slideshow by Eric Edwards (who coincidentaly is fan of the daily telegraph).
Eric showed slide of some pike that were on the largish side hes caught and talked his way round some big(ish) lakes.
Eric gave us some of his insights into the theory and practice of fishing some of these waters, a lot of his thoughts were quite interesting to say the least for those of us who fish these kind of places. The points he raised on themoclines (Eric used far more technical terms acompanied by lovely coloured diagrams) shouold give rise to thought for any angler who fishes waters large enough to develop them, following this he produced a partial map of a lake and pointed out a favoured area, then opened it up to the floor to see what other features would be picked out by those of us willing to have a go (Jon was busy with the camera at this point taking pictures and as one wag pointed out it was only for the map and the spots Eric would pick).
All in all quite a thought provoking evening.
So from me thank you Eric

Happy New Year

Wishing you all a Happy new year
im of fishing now for a couple of days so I ll see you all when i get back

oh and dont forget on wednesday Eric Edwards will be giving us a talk so for my money thats one not to miss

best of luck to you all if your out

Gary Knowles

Well on wednesday we were treated to one of the areas most recocnisable anglers (AT regular)
Gary Knowles who gave a talk about his fishing which included some quality pike, bream, perch, rudd need I go on?
Throw his record of catching wonderful fish in with some of the tales Gavin Mck..... and the trials and tribulations of having lures measured on certain waters, amongst many others. type='text'>

Well Ive finally made it to a fish in, what a weekend it turned out to be though
1st between us all we managed the grand total of zero pike now i could reel a load of excuses off about the weather and lack of choice of swims (high water levels), but i wont as there are things more important than that.

Well on a personal note it was a small disaster which started with turning up late, at which point I realised I had no traces made up so started to make a few in the car and the 1st one well a size four going under your fingernail to the bend hurts some (at least it stayed warm all weekend)
Through the night the water and wind conspired to wreck Karl and Shauns fishing the going got so bad they packed up through the night and left for home which is another tale in itself involving the AA.
Come Saturday morning I get up get out of the car to um strecth (several cups of tea too many the evening before) and proceed to lock the keys inside after much swearing and use of a screwdriver pretending to be a car theif i gave up and a kind Gentleman lent me his car to go into the village and phone the RAC (ive forgotten your name Ian Mark or Alan(did say I was terrible with names but thank you very much) who duly turned up and much mirth was made including photos (thank you Andy) and a thank you to the tourist info office for theier help with the phone.
well finally I got to have a fish of I wandered to the right hand side of the area we were and just after getting my sticks i my wader proceded to fall apart so i was reduced to wellies and nowhere to fish until the wind and drifting weed got the better of one of the group up there I quickly accepted the invite to poach his swim but when 3.25 rods act like a quiver tip due to the weed you know its going to be hard work so after snagging two rods on one snag and losing one rig it was time to call it a day (no use leaving loads of rigs braid etc in the water)

Anyway I would like to thank all of you for the innumerable cups of tea offers of food (those who remembered to bring some other than cupa soups you know who you are)
I couldnt have hoped to spend such a fun weekend where the fishing was truly horrible with a nicer set of anglers and to each and every one of you thank you and with any luck your next visit to the lakes wont put so many obsticles in your way as you all faced and apart from the lack of pike you all seemed to thouroghly enjoy yourselves
<img width='1' height='1'
